Herbs contraindication in pregnancy
1. absolute contraindication
1) herbs with toxicity or drastic action( shui yin, xiong huang, ban mao, ma qian zi,
chan chu, chuan wu, cao wu, li lu, gu di, ba dou, gan sui, da ji, yuan hua, qian niu
zi, shang lu)
2) herbs that move qi and blood strongly: (such as shui zhi, mang chong, hong hua)
3) resolve or soften masses/hardness: ( such as sang len, e zhu, tu bie chong)
4) promote labor or threatened abortion or even miscarriage: (such as She xiang)
2. relatively contraindication(be given cautiously)
1) invigorate the blood and disperse blood stasis
2) promote movement of qi
3) purgatives
4) some herbs of warming the interior
such as niu xi, chuang xiong, hong hua, tao ren, Jiang huang, mu dan pi. zhi shi, zhi
ke, da huang, fang xie ye, lu hui, mang xiao, fu zi, rou gui.
